Education, not advice
Everything in Yield — the calendar, the lessons, the calculators and the examples — is general information for educational purposes. None of it is financial, investment, tax or legal advice, and none of it is a recommendation to buy, sell or hold any investment.
Yield does not know your income, your debts, your goals or how much risk you can take, so it cannot tell you what is right for you. Before you invest, consider speaking to a professional who is registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Nigeria. The SEC publishes a register of registered capital market operators at sec.gov.ng.
Not a government service
Yield is independent. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or operated on behalf of the Debt Management Office (DMO), the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) or any other government body. We summarise information these organisations publish, and link to them so you can check it yourself.
Always check dates and rates at the source
We compile the calendar by hand from official publications and work to keep it accurate, but dates and rates change and mistakes can happen. Each event shows its source and the date we last checked it.
Events marked “Expected” have not been published yet. Their dates are estimates based on how the event has been scheduled in the past, and they may be wrong.
Before you act, confirm the dates, rate, minimum and terms with the official source, your bank or your stockbroker. To the extent permitted by law, we are not responsible for a window you miss or a decision you make based on information in Yield.
Calculators are illustrations
Calculator results are simple projections based on the numbers you enter. They are not quotes, offers or promises. What you actually receive depends on the rate when you buy, fees, taxes, timing and, for some investments, market prices — and may be less than the calculator shows.
Market figures used in lessons and calculators, such as the inflation rate and average deposit rates, are stated as of a particular date and go out of date.
All investing carries risk
Federal Government securities are generally considered among the lowest-risk investments available in Nigeria, but no investment is risk-free. Inflation can rise above your return. Rates change, and past rates do not predict future ones. If you sell an investment before it matures, you may get back less than you put in.
Reminders can fail
Alerts are scheduled on your phone and depend on its settings, including notification permission and battery-saving features. A reminder may arrive late or not at all. Do not rely on Yield as your only reminder for a deadline that matters to you.
